Training Dates

The Howard County Officials, Inc (HCO) requires that all officials be trained. ASA will be conducting training sessions for those interested in umpiring adult slow pitch softball and youth fast pitch softball in Howard County. See Dates.

The training will be in the evenings start in February and run through the end of March. Training sessions are mandatory for all 1st and 2nd year umpires to be ASA certified and highly encourage for all others. The General meetings and on field clinic are open to everybody. All indoor sessions will be start at 7:00pm at the Howard County Recreations & Parks Building at 7120 Oakland Mills Road in Columbia. There will also be a one-day umpires clinic at Cedar Lane Park. There will be no charge. It will include indoor and on field training.

There is no fee to participate in any of the training sessions. All interested people of good character and thick skin are invited to attend. Feel free to bring a friend. The Slow Pitch season runs from mid-April through October. The Fast Pitch season runs from April through June.

All desiring to umpire games must register with the Amateur Softball Association for which there is a $40 fee.
